Kerala Trip..... Day 1 in Munnar

21st Dec 2009, Bengaluru Bus Stand

After waiting for about 1 hr at the Bengaluro bus stand, finally our bus arrived to take us to Munnar to start our trip to Kerala.

22nd Dec 2009, Munnar

We reached Munnar at 11:00 AM in morning, met our driver, Mr. Anand, who was waiting for us at bus stand. He took us to our hotel (Hill View Munnar). A spacious room with hospitable staff was enough for our comfortable stay at hotel.

After some rest, we headed out to have lunch and then start our sightseeing. Food for North Indians is always a problem in South and for Vegetarians… well…… no words to define the problem. Anyways, we somehow managed to eat our first lunch at a place suggested by our driver. We tried some paranthas and some channa masala. Though not anything great, it was enough to fill us up! And then, we started our exploration...

Our first stop was Tea Manufacturing Unit, the oldest tea manufacturing unit in Munnar. There we saw how tea leaves are processed to make final tea that we use and different qualities of teas that are made and marketed. An interesting trip ended up with a cup of amazing tea.

Next, we moved towards “Eravikulam national park” famous for Nilgiri Thar Goat. There at height of 1500 msl, we "3 idiots" were shivering in half sleeve shirts, while our jackets were resting in the warmth of our hotel room. We had to wait for about an hour in queue to buy tickets and catch the bus to enter the park. Finally, when we reached the top it was an overwhelming scene. The greenery, the clouds, the fresh air...everything made you forget chill for some time. As we had no other option than to face the chill we moved forward! The trek was wonderful and we were energetic… so we went to the last point uptill where we were permitted to go, did some stupid things, and clicked lots of scenic pics….

It was dark by the time we came back to the town and after some exploration found a south Indian restaurant (Sarvana Bhavan) that was more of a dhaba than a restaurant. Not exactly the kind of place you would go to if you are looking for hygienic food, but the food tasted good and the dosas were the best that we North Indians could eat in vegetarian food!

After the dinner and some market exploration, we reached our hotel and played cards and rested for the night.

That’s how our first day ended during the trip…
